Jenna Theopolis has always known what she wanted. Getting out of her small hometown of Greenfield was number one on her list of priorities. Until she met Rusty Catron.
Rusty's fun-loving personality was the perfect match for Jenna's inner wild child. But what started off as a summer fling quickly turns into something more. At least it does for Jenna.
Rusty has lived with the ghost of his father's abandonment since he was a child, but now he's beginning to feel the crippling effects of his scars. He wants to trust in Jenna, but deep down he doesn't believe someone so wild and free can ever be tamed.
But tragedy strikes, pushing Jenna out of Greenfield and leaving Rusty with a choice to make - face his inner demons or lose the love of his life. Forever.

After reading The Wild Ones, I couldn’t wait to begin Rusty and Jenna’s story – I fell in love with this couple during Trick and Cami’s amazing story so I had high expectations for this novella. My expectations were not only met, but they were exceeded. The beginning of Wild Child was tremendous fun – it was full of teasing and tons of steamy moments that threatened to leave my poor toes permanently curled. But I am so impressed with the depth and heart that this story possessed. I was not expecting to have my soul shattered or to cry myself into the fetal position, but it happened. As Trick and Cami prepare for a very special day, poor Rusty and Jenna find themselves roped into an uncomfortable predicament of... shall we say... moral support. After a wild night of shots, mechanical bulls, and an alluring choice of clothing… they cave to their feelings, and Jenna lets it slip just how much she cares for Rusty. That would be great since it’s obvious Rusty feels the same way, but a tumultuous past involving being abandoned by someone Rusty should have been able to depend on has made him overly cautious when it comes to letting people get close. Especially a wild child like Jenna who has an incredibly bright future ahead of her and who isn’t cut out for life in a small, sleepy town like Greenfield. But plans could change and futures could only get brighter if two people as stubborn and ornery as Rusty and Jenna could learn to communicate and talk about what’s really going on in those hard heads of theirs. The real question is will they come to their senses before tragedy strikes, or will it be too late to ever find out what could have been?
This is the novella that all other novellas want to be when they grow up. Don’t let the word novella fool you – this is a complete story full of everything a bestselling novel encompasses: a beautiful tale with many heartwarming moments, an unanticipated heart-wrenching storyline, and a stunning and amazing conclusion. An emotional read, yes, but one that will leave you with a huge satisfied smile and a heart full of contentment. I recommend this to all fans of The Wild Ones and to anyone who loves a great story that can be read in one sitting.

Wild Child (Audible Audio Edition) M Leighton Nick Podehl Amy McFadden Brilliance Audio Books Reviews
Wow. Now that is how you write a novella. This was a short read, but packed such a punch. With such a variety of emotions, it read more like a full novel than just a glimpse into Jenna & Rusty's struggle to find their way together beyond the fears that held them back.
Jenna is not the type of girl to live in the same small town she grew up in, she has big dreams to escape the small town life. Rusty has always known that Jenna was not the kind of girl to stick. He was just waiting and enjoying the ride until the one day when she finally left, left him.
Rusty's past can't seem to let him admit what he feels for Jenna, but it sure does a number on how he reacts to her. Between his fear of her one day walking away and her fear that he never saw their relationship for more than just a good time, these two are the poster children for miscommunication.
There are some pretty tragic moments that occur during this one, which again, for being so short it was amazing how much emotion you felt. But sometimes it takes a tragic moment to find something beautiful that you overlooked. For Jenna and Rusty finding that beautiful was not an easy road - it took facing fears of your past and fears of what your future would hold. But when you love someone that much it's worth it.
And in between the disaster of these two, we get loads of Cami & Trick as they are approaching their very own HEA courtesy of a walk down a particular aisle. This was a story that felt like forever ago that I had read, but within just a few pages I recalled every part of the first in the series. Which just shows how much that story just stuck, I can't wait to see what comes next in the series - hoping that we get more of the whole bunch.
And let's just take a moment to say that Rusty and Jenna set fire to my eff'n . The tease that occurs at the start of this was like slowly stoking a fire, and when that fire finally caught, it was hotter than hell.
This is a novella in The Wild Ones series which can be read as a stand-alone.
This is a short sexy read with emotional depth. Jenna Theopolis really is a wild child and to some degree so is Rusty (Jeffrey) Catron yet he is much more tempered than she is. Jenna has plans for her future and they don’t include staying in her hometown. She has always wanted to leave and spread her wings. At least that was the case until she spends an amazing summer with Rusty and finds that she has fallen deeply in love with him. Jenna has graduated from college and wants to start on her career path but she is torn because of her feelings for Rusty.
Rusty’s father walked out on him and his mother when he was a child and that left him with abandonment issues. He loves Jenna but he believes things are temporary, that her inner spirit will eventually take her from him. He doesn’t trust that she would stay so he doesn’t tell her his feelings and when the ground falls out from under him he tells her to go which hurts her.
But when the ground falls out from under Jenna he allows nothing to stop him from running to be with her, seeking to help her through a dark time. When the dust settles he finally voices his feelings and desires. In all relationships communication is vital, without it there are so many misunderstandings that could have been avoided. This is one of the lessons of this novella.
The H and h are two very likable characters and the antics they get into are not only amusing but steamy. This is a tale of two young adults facing what life throws at them and growing up some in the process.
